Yum Yum!

I guess its about time that I write something else aside from The Wheel of Time...

Watched Discovery Channel's "Notebooks from China" episode. Discussed noodles. Marco Polo, from his 17 years of stay in Asia, brought the concept of noodles to Europe. But, what really stuck to my mind were some of the popular noodle recipes. Some stalls in China, wheat noodles are arranged in a circle, embedded with sweet red soy bean paste, and deep fried. Makes a yummy snack. Also featured is the rice noodle and its most famous recipe called "Over the Bridge" (or something like that. I can't quite remember it verbatim). It actully has a story, short of a legend, to go with it. A wife would prepare rice noodle soup for her husband to take over the bridge where there was a pavillion at the end where he could do his fishing. But, since the weather was always cold in that area, by the time the soup gets to her husband, it has already turned icy cold. One day, the wife poured chicken fat broth over the rice noodles. She brought it to her husband over the bridge and was surprised to find that the soup was still perfectly hot. The film of oil from the chicken fat, seals the heat in. In some restaurants in China, they serve this dish by first heating the bowls in ovens at 300F, then they pour the steaming chicken broth. It is then brought to the tables along with plates of rice noodles and other meat and vegetables. The customer would then be the one to put the noodles and other ingredients he/she wants in the soup.

Went to visit Wan's business venture last night in Marikina City. Its a "masa" restaurant called "Boyong's Sizzling Station." The food is very, very, very good and the price is very, very, very cheap. All items are served on sizzling plates. Meals cost from P49 to P99 (for the T-Bone Steak). Meals all have a serving of a cup of buttered rice and veggies. Fritz and I tried the Sizzling Chicken Steak and the Sizzling Burger Steak. We also had Sizzling Tokwang Gambas (tokwa cubes in gambas sauce) and Sizzling Kangkong (kangkong in a hybrid oyster/adobo sauce). Plus 4 bottles of Coke "sakto." All these for only P190.00! And we were pleasantly filled the whole night!
For those who find themselves in the Marikina area, Boyong's Sizzling Station is along Shoe Avenue, just a block away from the incredibly spotless Marikina City Hall (now, why aren't the rest of Metro Manila like that?).
